This wooden one i have seems to work OK for now but it has serious limitations and is only a prototype. I have actually been experimenting with an all wood version to try out the rests. I was not overly worried about the bed gap differences causing an issue, if the banjo i buy does not have the right sized clamp on the underside i can simply make one by drilling and taping some metal i have on hand. I know that a few members still turn with a 1460, If someone with that banjo could take a measurement of the height i would make shopping around easier. Thanks for all the advise everyone, There was a lot more to consider than i realized. Is there anything i am not considering that would make this part not work on my lathe? is there a better lathe to try and buy parts from to fit a 1" shank tool rest? This seems fairly reasonable and I would more than likely order it up with the proceeds of selling a beaver lathe.
#WOOD LATHE REPLACEMENT PARTS PLUS#
Their price was about $60 plus unknown shipping costs for the banjo assembly. It has a quick action tool free front and side locking parts. it looks like their heavy duty wood lathe 18X48(I think) will also accommodate the same size tool rest shank. I am not all that concerned about using the OEM banjo and I called busybee today. I am working on a banjo made of wood which is a fun project on its own but i am also looking into getting a proper metal replacement. I will also be selling the beaver soon and the tool rest will be sold with that lathe. I have been using the banjo and tool rests from my beaver 3400 lathe but i would like to use the tool rests that came with the 1460 (they have a 1" shank). I was able to get a replacement tail stock from someone locally which was an awesome stroke of luck. I have a Delta 1460 Lathe, It came to me without a tailstock or a banjo.
